Running circles around our town
I am halfway around Maple Street
a quarter mile from Lulu's Coffee
before I will ever tell myself the truth
and especially you.
The sun remedies my mistakes
she soothes the waves
of my despair
then she vanishes
So I find myself walking
Maple Street.
The place of ends.
Outside this dusty window
Cold rain pours
In a diagonal fury
across the cement.
So, my tears decide to join
a flash flood consuming me.
At last, my heart is pried open
again I think a thought of you.
If comparison is a killer
consider me dead
A victim of it's poisonous seed
Vines of toxicity growing in my head.
Ma'am, we are closing in 10 minutes
the barista told me.
Watered down iced matcha
Cold chicken pesto sandwich
You are probably out partying
You told me You only live once
I laughed at that.
How do you know?
My head travels down every road
You and your one track mind.
Yes I am envious.
Yes, I almost hate you for it.
Silence and the screech of chairs
sliding across the old, wooden floors.
It is now hopeless to ignore.
The sky tells me by rumbling once more
I grab my coat, bright green and worn out
and I walk the rainy road away from Maple Street.
